My Guardian To Love. By butterfly-V ©2013
Claire Kennedy was utterly relieved to have her husband back at home. The drive home from the airport earlier that evening was quiet, and Claire had no problems with that as she drove home in her 4WD with Leon half asleep in the passenger’s seat.
Leon’s mission in China had left the special agent physically, emotionally and mentally drained as he left the airport to meet up with Claire. The moment he saw his beloved wife, and the feel of her body pressed to his as he hugged her tightly, it lifted some of the stress and strain from him. When he pulled away slightly to gaze at her face, he could see that same look of emotional fatigue etched on her beautiful features. He immediately felt guilty for putting that look of stress on her face as he gently caressed her cheek. As much as he knew that Claire was a strong woman, he didn’t like taking
advantage of that remarkable quality about her.
“Are you going to be okay?” Claire asked, her voice clearly etched with worry. Her husband let out a sigh as he nodded and held her face in his hands.
“I will be Claire, sorry if I worried you.” Leon said in a low voice, as he lowered his forehead to touch hers as he closed his eyes. Claire could sense a tinge of regret in his voice as her hands reached up to caress his face.
“Don’t beat yourself up over that sweetheart. You had an important job to do. I’m just so glad you were pardoned and cleared of treason. That scared me the most.” Claire’s voice was on the verge of breaking. Her eyes had welled with tears as she spoke from her heart at how the events prior to Leon having to go to China had left a heavy weight of worry on her shoulders. Not just for her; but also for him. Leon could not stand the sight of tears in his wife’s eyes, and immediately tried to wipe away her tears with his fingers. The moment he saw a tear slide down her cheek, he clutched her to his chest.
“Please don’t cry Claire.” Leon’s voice begged her as he felt his grey, button down shirt soaking up her tears, and his fingerless-gloved hands caressed her back in comfort.
To see his wife clutching him in tears broke his heart as he tried his best to calm her, but in the end, he knew it was best to just hold her and let her cry out her relief. He had no idea how long he held Claire as he felt his wife cry out the last of her tears in his arms. As he held her tightly to his chest and buried his face into her shoulder, he too was caught up in the aftermath of how much of the same events prior to China had also weighed heavily on his shoulders. More specifically, having to fake his death and escape the city of Tall Oaks with its seventy-thousand infected citizens, his friend and boss President Adam Benford falling victim to the treachery of the National Security Advisor, having no other choice but to shoot the President to save his partner, and being accused of treason. How he received the evidence he needed to clear his name was something he wanted to erase from his mind, and tossing away the compact was a great way to start.
If there was any bright light at the end of such a tunnel, he was utterly glad that he had Claire by his side, and her love covering him like a healing balm. The weight of the aftermath of what had happened to him both prior and then in China had left his head feeling incredibly heavy that he was sure he would have fallen over had he not been holding Claire to comfort her from her own stress of the events. Nightmares from such missions were nothing new to the special agent, and he had no doubts that nightmares would certainly make an attempt to come, especially in the memory of him shooting the President. But ever since the events of Harvadville Airport and how they reconnected and spent every genuine attempt to be together whenever Leon’s schedule allowed it, he immediately came to realise just how important Claire had become in his life. And more specifically, how their friendship that strongly built into love, had become the greatest healing balm to his nightmares and more importantly, to his soul. He was completely relieved to feel that his wife had finally calmed down and cried out all of her previous stress and strain.
“Do you feel any better Claire?” Leon asked softly as his hands caressed the length of her back underneath her leather jacket. With a smile, she raised her head and nodded.
“Yeah I do now. They were tears of fatigue and also relief. I’m just so relieved to have you back. Let’s go home; we can talk about this later.” Claire answered and rubbed the sleeve of her jacket to wipe her tears stains from her face. Leon nodded as he reached down to grab his bag near his feet.
“Yeah. Home sounds great.” Leon said in a tired and much relieved voice as he carefully swung his bag over his shoulder and reached for Claire’s hand as they walked to where she had parked her 4WD. The sound of Leon’s breathing not only gave Claire an indication that he was dozing, but it also gave her incredible comfort during the silent drive home. She also realised that having that moment to cry out her relief had helped her too.
They were now back home and in the safe haven of their bedroom. Neither of them cared at this point that they hadn’t bothered to take off their boots as they sat down on the bed. Claire sat on her side of the bed with an open book she had been reading, and after Leon had dumped his bag on a chair, motioned for him to sit down and rest in between her legs. He didn’t need to be told more than once, and with a smile, carefully sat himself down on the bed to lie back in Claire’s arms. The moment the back of Leon’s head felt contact with his wife’s breasts, he sighed and closed his eyes. He could not have imagined a softer pillow to rest his head against as he felt Claire’s hands caress his face and shoulders in comfort. He could already begin to feel the strength of his wife’s love work its healing balm effect on him as he felt her arms curl around him from behind and her lips trail kisses to his cheekbone. His fingerless-gloved hands found her thighs and rubbed them in comfort as a silent ‘thank you’ to his wife. Claire couldn’t help but smile as one of her fingerless-gloved hands found one of his and laced their fingers together.
“It feels so good to be home Claire.” Leon said in a relaxed voice as he brought his free hand up to caress her face. He slightly turned his head to gaze into her eyes, and was utterly relieved to find her eyes no longer puffed up from crying. He could easily see that she needed that moment earlier to let out her emotions – even if it meant for him the agony of seeing her in tears. The look on her face and especially in her eyes, gave the special agent a clear indication that her remarkable inner strength had returned as Claire gazed down at his face and kissed him softly and slowly.
“Do you feel any better Claire?” Leon asked as he turned his body slightly to see her face more clearly. He was so happy when she smiled again. A genuine and loving smile that he loved to see and how much it brightened her face.
“I’m a lot better!” Claire answered with an unhidden tone of relief in her voice. “Sorry if I just crumbled like that earlier.”
“Why do you need to feel that you have to apologise for that?!” Leon asked in a clearly shocked voice as he sat up to face Claire and placed his arms gently around her.
“I for one am glad to see you let out your feelings. You always taught me that it was better to let it out, than to bottle it up inside and let it infect you. I know my training helps me to push down my emotions and concentrate on the mission, but in truth Claire, your tears earlier were for the both of us. My head was spinning with so many emotions too but I had to push all of that aside to concentrate on the mission and capture Simmons. I had to be in top form to be able to capture him and clear my name. I just couldn’t bear the thought of what could have happened to you had I failed.” Leon declared softly into her hair as he held her and Claire raised her head.
“So you’re not mad?” Claire asked timidly with a lop-sided smile.
“I’m anything but mad Claire. You are one of the strongest beauties I could ever have met, and have the greatest honour of calling my wife. Your love has truly become the greatest healing balm to my soul.” Leon said with a smile, and then captured her lips in a mind blowing kiss to emphasise his point.
His words had left Claire drowning in joy. It almost made her want to cry again, but this time in happiness. When their mind blowing kiss ended due to the need to breathe, Leon was surprised to find a new sense of determination shining in her gorgeous blue eyes.
“Leon, Chris told me some details about what took place in China and it makes me proud that the both you were able to work together in a way. If you feel like you need someone to talk to about this, it wouldn’t hurt to talk to him too. But there’s something I want you to know.” Claire said with sincerity as she reached for his hands. Leon nodded slightly as he focused on her beautiful face.
“For years, ever since Raccoon City, you have tried to be some kind of guardian to the world and protect them from Neo-Umbrella’s madness. It makes me incredibly proud that you would want to do that. But even heroes need a guardian of their own. Ever since that day we were able to reconnect after Harvadville, I had always considered you to be my special guardian, not because of what you do, but because of who you are. Every time you took me out on a date, I could always feel your strength radiate across the room and in turn it would strengthen me. That’s the kind of special guardian I want to be for you. Not just the one that guards you from your nightmares, but guards your love, your compassion, and your soul.” Claire’s lips then reached for his to seal her confession with a kiss. Leon was completely overwhelmed by his wife’s words his hands were shaking slightly as his wife kissed him. When she pulled back slightly, Claire noticed a similar determined look in her husband’s eyes.
“You are every bit my guardian and more already my love. You have been that guardian to me from the beginning. There was just something about you that captured me from the start, your strength. We’re not just a team or husband and wife Claire; we’re each other’s guardian of love and soul.” Leon said with conviction, and slid himself down to lie on his stomach as he placed his head on her left thigh and curled his left arm over her leg.
He couldn’t help placing a kiss to her thigh when he felt her hand gently rest on his neck and glide through his hair. To see her strong husband fall asleep in her lap filled her with a feeling of protectiveness. Her book held no interest as she felt her husband’s even breathing as he slept. She couldn’t stop the smile on her face when she felt his right arm slide down her leg and his hand hit the floor, as she thought about what her husband had said.
“Each other’s guardian of love and soul.” Claire said softly as she placed her hand in between his shoulder blades, and guarded her beloved special agent with a strong, determined smile as he slept.
